KAREN JOHNSON

Vice President

Karen is a seasoned strategic and financial leader with over 20 years’ experience in both for-profit and non-profit organizations. As Vice President of Finance and member of our executive team, Karen stewards Nyhus’ day-to-day financial operations and delivers strategic insights and opportunities for the organization. She is passionate about bringing actionable intelligence to the Nyhus team.

Prior to joining Nyhus, Karen consulted with a variety of organizations on strategy development and execution as well as project and process management. Prior to that, Karen served as deputy director for grants management at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. There she led a key strategic project streamlining the grant-making process and supervised a team of ten in all aspects of grant administration.

Prior to joining the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Karen served in a variety of strategic and financial roles at Weyerhaeuser Company, a global forest products company. During her time at Weyerhaeuser she was involved in strategic and financial analyses, acquisitions and divestitures, and business and corporate strategic planning to name a few. Her passion for giving back to the community ultimately led to her taking on the role of president of the Weyerhaeuser company foundation.

Karen is a graduate of Seattle’s Leadership Tomorrow community leader development program and Seattle University’s Executive Leadership Program. She received her Master of Management from Northwestern University and Bachelor of Business Administration from Iowa State University. She is a past board member of an arts organization and Leadership Tomorrow.
