Summer is here. Pride has started. And this year, we’re marching.
That’s because this year, many of your friends will be at the Equality March for Unity and Pride on Sunday in Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Unlike parades and festivals we’ve been celebrating, this year the LGBTQ+ community is marching. In the words of one local LGBT leader, “This is the first time our community is marching in a long while.”
On Sunday, the Equality March for Unity and Pride will protest hostile rhetoric, discriminatory policies, and violence against the most vulnerable in our communities. The march will have an increased focus on communities targeted because of skin color, immigration status, ethnicity, religion, gender and disability. ‘
It’s not a celebration, though we are celebrating. We’re celebrating the differences that make our community important and special – and which call us to stand up to hate.
See you there.
