5 Questions with Adam Jackson, Public Relations Intern

Continuing our “5 Questions” series, meet our new Public Relations Intern, Adam Jackson. He comes from the Seattle Youth Employment Program, and through this internship he hopes to gain experience that will back up his business studies.

What is your favorite thing about experiencing what it’s like working PR/PA/Marketing industry?

I became interested in PR because I liked the idea of providing a service to people and companies to improve perceptions to achieve business goals. The research the Nyhus team preforms for each client opened my eyes to the tools and best practices that can be used to improve brand awareness and make an impact. Also, since joining Nyhus I’ve been able to see first-hand how these efforts are used in Executive Communications to help senior leadership raise their profiles as thought leaders in their respective communities. It’s great to see companies improve the brand of a product in order to make more sells, but there’s something special about improving an individual and empowering them to be the best version of themselves.

What’s the best part about your new internship so far?

By far this is one of the best communities of people I’ve ever worked. Everyone is extremely professional but still relaxed. They are willing to help each other because they know it will benefit the team and their clients. They’ve done a great job at creating an environment conducive to collaboration and success. You’re only the sum of your parts, and each team member tries to maximize the output for their role.

Any advice for other interns?

Internships are what you make of them. Of course each internship is different but it is important to make sure that you set goals for yourself and your manager to ensure that your time as an intern is beneficial for everyone. I have found it helpful to identify what success looks like for you, what you want to learn, and what skills you want to improve. If you’re setting realistic goals, achieving them, and making your team look better with excellent work, then your experience will be positive. Dive into your new workplace and immerse yourself. Your time as an intern is fleeting, so absorb what you can, and develop and appreciate the connections you’ve made. Make a lasting impression by how you communicate and your actions. One positive experience will lead to another, and you will eventually transition from being an intern to a battle tested business professional.

What’s something you’re looking forward to this summer?

I’m doing a 5k color run around Lake Sammamish, where tons of colored powder is thrown around. The participants usually wear all white, and by the end of the run they are tie-dyed from head to toe.

What’s the best joke you’ve ever heard?

I’m a sucker for a good Chuck Norris joke. Here is one of my favorites:

What’s under Chuck Norris’ beard? Another fist!
