What are you looking forward to most in your new position?
I’m excited to continue to develop my public affairs skills. In my career thus far, I’ve worked primarily in the public relations field, so this is a great opportunity to dive further into the world of public affairs. Luckily, I work with individuals that come from diverse backgrounds and from whom I can learn. My favorite part of my new gig has been getting to know my coworkers!

What is your favorite thing about working in the PR/PA industry?
One of my favorite parts about working in the PR industry, and specifically for PR agencies, is that it has allowed me the opportunity to learn about a variety of industries I otherwise wouldn’t have become familiar with.

Any advice for aspiring PR/PA pros?
Take every chance you can to learn something new. If you don’t know how to do something, shadow a peer, take a tutorial, or read industry articles and learn as you go. It’s important to continue to develop your media/social media/design/content chops as this industry is constantly changing. Also, stay on top of trending news and what’s happening in your community. The more informed you are, the stronger you will be as a PR/PA professional.

What’s one thing about you that would surprise me?
When I was 16 years old, I studied abroad in Sweden with Youth for Understanding, a nonprofit student exchange organization! I lived on a small island called Alnö, located four hours north of Stockholm, with my host family, a dog, two cats, and two bunnies. During my exchange year, I studied the photo/art line at high school, participated on a local gymnastics team, and learned how to fluently speak Swedish. To this day, it’s still the best experience of my life.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring areas of the Pacific Northwest (PNW) that I’ve never been to before. This summer, my boyfriend and I took the Clipper up to Victoria for Canada Day. We spent the weekend listening to live music, exploring the Royal BC museum, and wandering around Chinatown. It was amazing to see an area of the PNW that I wasn’t familiar with!
