Continuing our “5 Questions” series, we’re excited to sit down with Mark Fox. Mark joined Nyhus earlier this year as an Account Coordinator. A writer at heart, he loves spending time in bookstores and finding new and local writers to follow. Mark brings his political background, campaign leadership and legislative support experience to our Public Affairs team.
What are you looking forward to most in your new position?
I’ve always been fascinated with communications. I love to write and to tell stories, and I want to put my skills and interests to work for my clients. On top of that, there’s a lot of great talent at Nyhus, and I’m excited to work with some wonderful people.
What is your favorite thing about working in the PR/PA industry?
I love the pace of the industry. It feels like there’s no such thing as a “slow news day.” Consumers communicate stories and data faster than ever before, and it’s our responsibility to keep an ear to the ground at all times. Cutting out distractions, focusing on the details and helping clients deliver their messages through the noise makes our job in Public Affairs all the more exciting.
What is your proudest career moment?
The time spent working to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington state was filled with a lot of those moments. I’m happy to have been a part.
How do you see the public affairs/PR landscape changing in the next few years?
With social media, consumers are closer to businesses than ever before, and conversations are taking place online more frequently. It is a trend that isn’t going to slow down and that will require new skills to study public opinion and craft an integrated communications strategy. Communications professionals with those skills will be necessary to get your story heard.
What’s one thing about you that would surprise me?
I’m shameless when it comes to my movie preferences. Cocoon, anyone?
